Smith also was a Top 10 sports beat writer in the country in 2017, according to the Association of Professional Sports Editors. A proud alum of the UK journalism program, Smith was editor of the Kentucky Kernel in 1997-98 and has recieved the Outstanding Alumnus Award from the College of Communication and Information as well as the Distinguished Alumna Award from the school.
