UK Regional Spelling Bee

Presented by: UK College of Arts & Sciences and UK College of Communication and Information

The University of Kentucky School of Journalism and Media houses the UK Scripps Howard First Amendment Center, and both have been sponsoring the Regional Spelling Bee for almost 10 years. We sponsor this bee because we find it important to encourage a love for literacy and spelling in school aged children. Many assume competing in a spelling bee is easy, but we have found over and over that students really put their all into the competition in studying the word lists, origins, and definitions. Their hard work and perserverence is integral to future success and we are proud to foster those attributes by sponsoring the Regional Bee. The spellers that attend our bee are some of the brightest children in Kentucky and we love providing an experience for them that makes a lasting memory. We are proud to say that our contituency consists of 81 counties and 481 schools.
