How To Apply

Submit all application materials through the University of Kentucky Graduate School application portal. Applicants will need to submit the application, GRE scores & transcripts*, personal statement, letters of recommendation** and a processing fee. Personal Statement should--in 200-300 words--explain (i) why you are seeking admission to the School of Library & Information Science, University of Kentucky, and (ii) why you are interested in a career as an informational professional. Click here for an application checklist.

* GRE scores & transcripts may be unofficial for the application, but upon admission, the Graduate School at UK will request official ones.

**We require three letters of recommendation. When you apply through the application portal, you will be asked to fill out an online form to submit the contact information of the three people who will be recommending you. The system will contact each person identified and their recommendations will be submitted directly to us. You can check back into your application at any time to see who has submitted a recommendation.

Please note the following application deadlines:

  • Spring deadline: November 15
  • Summer deadline: April 15
  • Fall deadline: July 1

Early application is encouraged.

Once an admission decision has been made, the student will be sent a email of notification from the Graduate School. The admission decision is made jointly by the Graduate School and the School of Library and Information Science.

See the latest School Bulletin for detailed admissions criteria. To have information sent to you by email, fill out our information request form, or schedule an online information session.
