John Ramsey
Biography
John currently serves as the chief transformation officer for Jacobs, which is the prime contractor for NASA’s Consolidated Operations, Management, Engineering, and Test Contract, or COMET, at the Kennedy Space Center.
Under COMET, Jacobs helps NASA to manage Kennedy’s launch infrastructure and process flight hardware. COMET services include: integrated scheduling; engineering; ground system development; flight vehicle/spacecraft processing; and launch, landing, and recovery operations for NASA’s Exploration Ground Systems, Space Launch System and Orion Programs. In late 2022, the Jacobs team helped NASA to launch and recover the successful Artemis I test flight.
Prior to taking on his current role, John led the Jacobs Spaceport Command & Control Systems integrated product team, and was responsible for the development and certification of the primary ground command and control system supporting the Artemis program. This team, numbering more than 200 people, includes systems, software and hardware architects, engineers, programmers, analysts and project managers.
Before joining Jacobs, John served in various roles over 14 years with MCI (acquired by Verizon), including sales/business development, engineering and architecture, operations and program management. John’s last role with Verizon Enterprise was as executive director of solutions architecture for the Americas and global practice leader where he led an organization of more than 500 solutions architects, engineers and technical professionals creating transformational business and technology solutions for high profile enterprise customers across a full portfolio of IT services.
John attended the University of Kentucky on an ROTC Scholarship, earning his Bachelor’s of Science. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army as an Infantry Officer and served in multiple assignments with Airborne Infantry units before leaving active duty.
John has served as a member and secretary/treasurer of the U.S. Space and Rocket Center Education Foundation Board of Directors and as the first chairman of the Space Camp Alumni Association Board. He is also a member of several professional organizations, including IEEE, PMI and AIAA. He is a licensed pilot, having begun flying single and multiengine aircraft at age 14 and attaining his first rating at age 17. John also holds an FCC Extra Class Amateur Radio license.
