Students in JOU 204, a media writing class in the School of Journalism and Media, toured TV station WKYT in Lexington on Monday, Nov. 20. JOU alumna Lindsay King, the station’s assistant news director, coordinated the visit which included the newsroom, control room and studio. Students sat in on the morning news meeting where producers, reporters and assignment editors discussed story ideas. The class also watched one of the 30-minute newscasts in the studio and engaged in a question-and-answer session with the anchors and reporters about their careers. Meteorologist Jim Caldwell demonstrated how the green screen works with showing weather maps and graphics.
