The School of Information Science recently welcomed Dr. Heng Zheng to UK SIS!

Dr. Zheng is an Assistant Professor in the School of Information Science at the University of Kentucky. His research focuses on AI and computational argumentation and their applications. His work lies at the intersection of artificial intelligence and information science, examining how computational models of arguments can enhance transparency and explainability in science communication and law.
 
Before joining the University of Kentucky in 2025, Dr. Zheng was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at the School of Information Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. He earned his Ph.D. in Artificial Intelligence from the University of Groningen in the Netherlands. His dissertation, “Arguments, Cases and Their Hardness: A Formal Theory with Case Studies in AI and Law,” investigated the formal and computational properties of case-based reasoning and legal argumentation.
 
Outside academia, Dr. Zheng is an avid technology enthusiast who enjoys building and experimenting with home labs, smart home systems, and emerging gadgets, including computers and EVs. He also loves exploring local coffee shops and regional cuisine.
