Destiny Witherspoon is a junior Broadcast Journalism and Human Communications dual major from Louisville, Kentucky. Since her middle school experience in the first ever broadcasting elective course, she knew communications and journalism was for her. Taking pride in her writing and the relief and joy it gives her, she attended the #1 public academic high school in the state of Kentucky (DuPont Manual Magnet High School) to pursue broadcast dreams.

Getting experience in front of and behind the camera as an editor, anchor, and reporter, it was obvious that the College of Communication and Information was for her. She loves how close knit the college is and how the professors are all professionals in their career. Many of her professors did not pursue education degrees but they are experts in their field of study. This allows for current explanation of how things are done and real world practices.

She also loves how small the college is because everyone gets to know each other and the students and faculty all help each other out. Unlike some other colleges, she gets to experience all aspects whether it’s taking an ISC course or a Media arts and Studies course; she doesn’t feel stuck with one major. She is able to get a feel for everything to make her final decision of what it is that she really wants to do. Destiny aspires to go into talent management or to be the head anchor for a show like 60 Minutes.

Destiny is very involved on campus, actively participating in five different organizations. These include National association of Black Journalists (NABJ), the Fundraising Chair for Minorities in Agriculture Natural Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS), The Elite List, a Stylist and PR representative for Lone Cats Fashion Magazine, and lastly a CI College Ambassador. Known for her colorful hair, and friendly personality, you are sure to see her around campus. Say hello or spark a conversation, she will be more than willing to talk to you and help you out with whatever you need.
