My degree has given me the skills needed to land my dream job right out of college. The ICT program is an incredibly versatile program for any technical person, offering courses in networking, information security, database administration, and web development. There are many different paths one could take in the technical field and the ICT program helped to highlight each of those, and helped me decide my career path and future specializations.
Coming from a small Kentucky town that has been negatively affected by the drilling for fossil fuels, I can stand behind Tesla’s mission to “Accelerate the world’s transition to sustainable energy”. Being at the forefront of innovation and being able to directly contribute to the success of the company by troubleshooting day-to-day operating issues makes all the hard work it took to get out here worth it.
I think the most important part of the ICT program is the strong emphasis on communication. What you know is only as good as your ability to communicate. Working for a company like Tesla, it’s important to be able to communicate to a diverse group of users with varying technical knowledge.
This isn’t the first time you’ll hear this, and it probably won’t be your last… Networking. Is. Important. Do it. Seriously, you never know what someone can help you achieve, where your connections might take you, and even who they can introduce you to. Don’t be afraid to get out there and engage with others.
