Cathy Black
National Senior Producer, CBS News Broadcast Marketing

Cathy Black was named Senior Producer of Broadcast Marketing at CBS News in September, 2011. Her responsibilities include developing and marketing promotional campaigns for "CBS This Morning" with Charlie Rose, Norah O’Donnell, and Gayle King. She will continue to be responsible for the Network's interaction with all CBS Affiliate stations, News Directors and General Managers throughout the country, and will also continue to book and produce News and Entertainment segments for CBS News.

Prior to her recent promotion, Cathy was a Supervising Producer and Music Booker for CBS News "The Early Show" and "The Saturday Early Show," (2002-2011); and before that, she served as Producer and Music Booker (1997-2002). In these roles, she was responsible for booking musical guests for the programs' outdoor concert series and producing a range of music, entertainment features and hard news segments. She has worked with a wide variety of artists, such as Prince, Beyoncé, Luther Vandross, Stevie Wonder, Garth Brooks, Elton John, Whitney Houston, Janet Jackson, Celine Dion, Sting, Adele, Rihanna, Kanye West, Katy Perry, Tina Turner, and Marc Anthony.

Her duties have also included producing concerts throughout the US and overseas, such as the "Summer In The City" concert series for "The Early Show"; Miami Superbowl XLIV 2010 concerts; Los Angeles and New York Grammy Award concerts; Las Vegas (ACM) Academy of Country Music Award; and Nashville (CMA) Country Music Association Award Concerts and Performances. International concerts have included Lenny Kravitz Live from Paris; Ringo Starr Live from Liverpool; and a special performance of Phantom of the Opera Live from Paris. In addition, she has covered a number of musical award shows including the Grammy Awards, the MTV Awards, the Academy of Country Music Awards, the CMA Awards, the Soul Train and BET Awards, and VH-1 Divas.

Black has also produced a variety of series and features for CBS News, including "The Early Show" series "Week of Wishes" and a Mother's Day series featuring the mothers of Beyoncé Knowles, Ruben Studdard and Clay Aiken. She has also covered a wide range of important news events, such as the Gulf War, the September 11 terrorist attacks, and Hurricane Katrina. She spent a year with the Jackson family covering the trial Michael Jackson trial after having spent extensive time with Michael Jackson at his Neverland Ranch.  In addition to booking and producing, Black also edits, writes, manages budgets, coordinates with broadcast sales, scouts remote locations, and supervises staff for CBS News broadcasts.

Black joined CBS News in 1990, working on the news desk and later as the Assistant to "CBS This Morning" anchor Harry Smith. She served in that position for six months before becoming an Associate Producer, covering hard news while also gaining experience in the entertainment area. Prior to joining CBS News, she worked at Kentucky Educational Television, assigned to the Special Events Unit, for which she traveled throughout the state to cover key events in the state of Kentucky and spent time in Frankfort covering the General Assembly.

A native of Lexington, Kentucky, Cathy earned a degree in telecommunications at the University of Kentucky. She currently resides in New York City, where she tutors and mentors young people and serves as a Producer, Music Director and Production Coordinator for theatrical productions at Calvary Baptist Church.
