The College of Communication and Information offers a variety of opportunities for graduate students to obtain funding.
CI Funding Opportunities
Scholarships
The college scholarship application for the Graduate Program in Communication will open in early January and close later in the semester.
Assistantships (TA or RA)
Assistantships are highly competitive and acceptance into the program does not guarantee a funding offer.
Overload
Students can apply for an extra eight hours of paid work per week, per semester with approval from the Associate Dean for the Graduate Program in Communication and the Graduate School.
These overloads can be granted for anything that is beneficial to a student’s scholarly or professional development such as research, teaching or other professional/scholarly activities. International students are not eligible for overloads.
Conference Travel Funding
Students who present research at major communication conferences are eligible to receive funding for conference travel. Students can apply for conference travel awards.
The amount of funding available per year varies, but individual students have received $800-1000 annually for travel support (sometimes more if funds permit).
