Overview
Every student who applies by the January application deadline will automatically be considered for an assistantship. Assistantships are highly competitive and acceptance into the program does not guarantee a funding offer. At the University of Kentucky, most of our funding comes in the form of teaching assistantships.
Duration
- Funding for Ph.D. students is guaranteed for four years (eight semesters).
- Funding for master's students is guaranteed for two years (four semesters).
Please note: Assistantships are for the fall and spring terms ONLY. Assistantships are not supported over the summer term but there are opportunities for students to work with faculty on research (for pay and/or course credit).
Funding Package and Expectations
The guaranteed funding package for graduate students includes the following:
- Full tuition waiver (scholarship)
- Monthly stipend
- Health insurance
To maintain their funding guarantee, students must remain in good standing. While on an assistantship, students are expected to maintain full-time enrollment (nine credit hours) and provide 20 hours of teaching support (teaching standalone courses or being a teaching assistant).
