During the course of their graduate study, students will need to be familiar with various documents and forms that are pertinent to successfully navigating the program. Below are links to various forms and resources that will be helpful to graduate students.

In addition to the resources and support provided by the faculty and graduate student organizations in the College of Communication and Information, students also have access to numerous campus wide resources provided by the UK Graduate School and the university.

This manual is a guide for master's and Ph.D. students in communication, their academic advisors and other graduate faculty members. The manual provides an overview of the degree and curriculum requirements, administrative processes and links to forms that need to be completed.

The handbook is updated annually and can be found here.

Independent Study/Directed Reading/Internship Form

Students wishing to enroll in CI 696 (Internship), CI 700 (Directed Reading), CI 781 (Independent Study) or CI 790 (Research Problems in Communication) must download and fill out this form. Students need a graduate faculty advisor and the form needs to be completely filled out.

Ph.D. Course of Study Form

All Ph.D. students should aim to have a permanent advisor by the end of their first academic year. In consultation with the advisor (and entire committee), students should fill out the Ph.D. course of study form to ensure that they have taken the correct courses in accordance with the program requirements and planned area of study.

Once completed, email the completed form to gradcomm@uky.edu for approval and filing.

Dissertation/Thesis Proposal Form

Students who are writing a thesis or dissertation typically have a proposal/prospectus meeting before moving on to collect data and finish the project in its entirety. This form should be completed by the committee when a student defends their proposal/prospectus.

Once completed, email the completed form to gradcomm@uky.edu for approval and filing.

All funded students are automatically enrolled in the graduate student health plan. Students are also eligible to purchase a plan as well.
