A native New Englander, James began his journalism career as a sportswriter in 1989 in Savannah, Ga. Worked as a sports editor in Chicago before returning to news with the Associated Press in Atlanta.


He has been with The Cincinnati Enquirer for most of the last 16 years, joining in 2000 with a few departures to try different business ventures. He is currently the investigative reporter for The Enquirer, looking at public institutions and specializing in projects that involve data and/or documents. James now lives in Northern Kentucky with Melissa, his wife of 24 years. He has three sons, including a student at UK.


Winner of AP Sports Editors explanatory story of the year for 2015.

Named top business reporter in Ohio in 2007.

Won several top state awards in both Ohio in Kentucky.
