Apply for the Spring 2017 Alternative Spring Break Program
The University of Kentucky School of Information Science is currently soliciting applications for the 2017 Alternative Spring Break program. This program is an excellent opportunity to gain experience, develop leadership skills, and network.
The Alternative Spring Break programs will occur during the University’s official Spring Break, March 13-17, 2017, at Smithsonian Libraries (Washington, D.C.) and the National Library of Medicine (Bethesda, MD).
For application instructions and project descriptions, please see the attached document. Applications must be submitted via e-mail to Ashley DeWitt (email@example.com) no later than December 12, 2016 at noon (Eastern).
Both UK SIS and the host institutions will review the candidates. Application materials should be polished, concise, current, and submitted on time. See these resources from Forbes, the UK Career Center, and Monster.com to ensure your application materials meet professional standards.
For each student selected, UK SIS will provide funding (up to $1000) to help offset the cost of transportation and lodging (both will be the responsibility of the student).
Selected participants are required to contribute social media posts, images, and reflections of their experience during and after the programs.
During the program, students will post at least twice on the social media platform of their choice following provided guidelines.
After the program, students will have two weeks to submit their reflection on the experience as well as pictures or other media. These items will be shared on the school’s website and social media platforms to generate interest from both potential participants and donors and to demonstrate the overall value of the experience.
If you have any questions, please contact Ashley DeWitt at firstname.lastname@example.org.
