While Kaitlyn Penzone (COM, 2023) is still fresh off the heels of earning her undergraduate degree, her preparedness throughout her time at UK secured her a full-time role as a change management specialist at ALDI U.S. shortly after commencement.
Before her final semester, Penzone completed a 12-week summer internship at ALDI U.S. as a change management and communications intern. She continued the role part-time and remotely until her graduation in December 2023. As a change management specialist, her role involves maintaining, testing, and implementing plans and activities for national and international projects that have people impact.
Penzone said her favorite part about working in change management is being able to collaborate with diverse teams across the business.
“It's an exciting position where I get to blend strategy and collaboration to help facilitate effective transitions,” Penzone said.
During her time in CI, Penzone learned the critical importance of being adaptable, which plays a crucial part in her job now. There have been countless times already, Penzone said, where she’s been able to apply knowledge and skills she obtained in her courses to her position.
Change management involves adjusting your approach to meet the needs of stakeholders, projects and departments. This results in Penzone having to think quickly on her feet and respond effectively to changing circumstances.
“Embracing adaptability has been important to my success in my career so far, allowing me to navigate challenges and capitalize on opportunities as they arise,” she said.
Penzone’s advice for current students is to make learning your main focus and engage with faculty by asking questions.
“Soak up as much knowledge as possible during your time in college,” she said. “... Take full advantage of the resources available to you while you’re still in school!”
