Advising

Advising at the College of Communication and Information

The advising staff in the College of Communication and Information is here to support you in completing your degree in a timely manner. Through academic advising students learn to become active within the University of Kentucky, to understand roles and responsibilities as students, and to become contributing citizens in a multicultural global society in the information age.

Student Responsibilities

♦ Keep the advising appointment you have scheduled and arrive on time.

♦ Be prepared for your appointment. Your advisor cannot do everything for you. A true advisor is someone who gives you useful advice to which you, in turn, use to make final decisions for yourself.

♦ Be honest and open. If you are having a personal problem that is interfering with your studies, please do not be afraid to share this with your advisor.

♦ Seek assistance as soon as a problem arises. DO NOT WAIT!

♦ Identify policies and dates relevant to your academic success (drop dates, repeat policy, etc.).

Advisor Responsibilities

Advising and teaching are closely related, in the process of reaching decisions about your future, your advisor will

♦ Explain CI college and UK policies and procedures.

♦ Provide an explanation of academic majors and minors.

♦ Help students develop academic goals.

If you are facing an issue that your advisor cannot address, he/she will connect you with resources on campus to help you resolve the issue.
