The ISC 399 Internships course is a 3-credit hour, Pass/Fail class that fulfills departmental graduation requirements. As with any class, all assignments must be completed to pass. Students may receive a grade of Incomplete or Fail if all assignments have not been completed.
Once enrolled in ISC 399, students will have access to the Canvas course shell and be able to view the course syllabus and assignments for the semester. Students will meet via Zoom at least once during the semester to clarify course requirements. Students may also be asked to meet with the instructor via Zoom at other times during the semester.
Students are expected to fulfill a minimum of 150 work hours during the term. Hours should be submitted via the Weekly Timesheet.
Students will examine the structure and dynamics of various types of ISC workplaces, comparing these workplaces to the current internship structure. The goal is to confirm or challenge assumptions regarding workplace structures, leadership, and roles.
Each month, students are asked to briefly reflect upon various aspects of the internship experience.
Students will submit a minimum of four work samples that demonstrate projects completed and lessons learned. These samples are an extension of the traditional ISC Portfolio requirement.
Near the conclusion of the semester, students should compose a thank you letter or card addressed to the site supervisor. A copy of the letter should be uploaded to Canvas.
The ISC Internship Coordinator will contact all site supervisors and encourage them to complete an evaluation of the student’s performance during the time of employment.
