Our mass communication faculty study mediated forms of communication including news media, advertising, public relations, entertainment and interactive/social media. Scholars in this area explore how media functions in our culture and its impact on individuals and society as a whole using a variety of methodological approaches and theoretical frameworks drawn from both the social sciences and the humanities.
In addition to teaching in our undergraduate major option in digital and mass communication, our faculty also teach in the graduate programs in communication and conduct research on the social-psychological processes and effects of mass media, new communication technology and video games, media consumption behavior, media effects on identity negotiation, media literacy and film criticism.
