Scholarships

The School of Journalism and Media (JAM) has many opportunities for undergraduate students to obtain scholarship funding.

ScholarshipUniverse

The College of Communication and Information utilizes ScholarshipUniverse, an online scholarship platform, to connect current and prospective students with College, UK and national scholarship opportunities and easily manage scholarship applications.

All scholarship applications besides the library sciences graduate scholarships are now located in ScholarshipUniverse. Both current students and prospective students with a linkblue ID can login to complete the student profile and search and apply for internal and external scholarship opportunities.

JAM Scholarships

Betty Frances Compton Scholarship Fund

Established in 2024 in memory of Betty Frances Compton, UK Class of 1951 and a Muses Mill native, who served as a picture editor for the Kentucky Kernel. She was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and spent her early career in journalism at the Thoroughbred Record and Lafayette Journal and Courier. An intellectual, she studied linguistics and taught English as a second language. Her warm, generous and gracious spirit brought joy to all who knew and loved her. The award was established to provide scholarships to students studying from Kentucky with financial need. 


Clarence E. and Edna Horn Johnson Endowed Scholarship

The endowment was established to provide scholarships for students who are graduates of a high school located in Pike, Letcher, Harlan or Floyd counties in Kentucky.


College of Communication and Information Endowed Scholarship

Upper Division students only. Established in 1990, these scholarships are awarded to two juniors and two seniors that demonstrate the potential for academic success and show need for financial assistance. 


Edith J. and Charles G. Dickerson Trust Scholarship

This scholarship supports deserving students in the School of Journalism and Media who exhibit academic excellence and show professional promise. The scholarship honors the memory of Edith J. and Charles G. Dickerson.


Eva J. Winkle Scholarship

This endowment was established to provide scholarships to students in good academic standing within the School of Journalism and Media who are senior staff writers or editors of the Kentucky Kernel and plan to pursue a career in journalism, print or other media.
