The School of Journalism and Media and the campus and Bluegrass Pro chapters of the Society of Professional Journalists will welcomed new Lexington Herald-Leader editor Richard A. “Rick” Green to town with a public conversation and reception for students, faculty and staff on Oct. 3, 2023.
Green has returned to his native Kentucky after leading the Sonoma Press Democrat to the Best in California Press award and the Louisville Courier Journal to its 2020 Pulitzer Prize for breaking news reporting, for coverage of Gov. Matt Bevin’s pardons, and two 2021 Pulitzer finalist slots for coverage of the killing of Breonna Taylor and its background and aftermath.
The new editor gave a brief talk about his journalism background, his approach to the craft and his hopes for the Herald-Leader, then answered questions from students, faculty, staff and other members of the public.
College of Communication and Information students, faculty and staff members were also invited to a reception before Green's talk, where Green held an in-depth session with students.
