Biography

Douglas A. Boyd is a professor in the Department of Communication, School of Journalism and Media, and Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce at the University of Kentucky. Since coming to Kentucky in 1987, he has held several administrative positions, including dean of the College of Communication and Information, associate provost for the Office of International Affairs and chief of staff in the Office of the President.

He previously held faculty positions at the University of Delaware and University of Maryland, College Park, and he was a Fulbright Professor at Cairo University in Egypt. He has also worked for the Department of Defense in Saudi Arabia, Voice of America and the British Broadcasting Corporation’s Office of International Broadcasting and Research in London. Boyd is the author of 60 academic articles, three editions of “Broadcasting in the Arab World: A Survey of the Electronic Media in the Middle East” and 60 academic publications.

Boyd graduated from the University of Texas at Austin, earned his master’s degree from the University of Maryland, College Park and earned his doctorate from the University of Minnesota.
