Jackie Powell

Biography

Jackie Powell and her husband Bill are the owners of Serif Group, a creative marketing agency. Before starting her own business, Powell started in the field at a small advertising agency and as a graphic designer for Gray Construction in Lexington.

Powell intended to study nursing after high school but countless re-runs of “Who’s the Boss” — where the main character is an advertising executive who sets her own hours, does creative work, employs her mother and takes her child to the office — convinced her that advertising was the career path for her.

Powell graduated from the University of Kentucky in 1997 with a degree in journalism-advertising. She was an involved member of the UK Ad Club and held internships with LEX18 and a small advertising agency. She and her husband were instrumental in establishing the Rick Roth Scholarship in UK’s College of Communication and Information.
