CGSA: Planning and Doing Research with Social Media and Internet Data
Friday, March 24, 2023
3:30 – 4:30 p.m.
306 McVey
Each day, billions of internet users leave "digital traces" of their identities and activities on social media platforms, interactive websites, and other online spaces. The growing importance of these spaces in all aspects of human life and users' (semi-)voluntary production of data create new opportunities for researchers. In particular, we can now collect and analyze already-existing, authentic data instead of (or in addition to) designing instruments for collecting further data. In this workshop, participants will learn about specific methodological and ethical considerations related to social media and internet data. They will also participate in interactive discussions that will help them plan a potential study using these data and learn about further resources they could use for actually carrying out this study.
If you have any questions prior to the workshop, please feel free to contact mehroz.sajjad@uky.edu or Dr. Greenhalgh (spencer.greenhalgh@uky.edu).
