JAM Faculty Represent UK at 2023 AEJMC Annual Conference

School of Journalism and Media faculty, with Dean Jennifer Greer, attend the 2023 Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication annual conference in Washington, D.C.

UK School of Journalism and Media faculty attended the 2023 annual conference of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, the major national professional organization for journalism and mass media educators, held in Washington, D.C.

Sporting their blue “Kentucky” badge ribbons, 10 JAM faculty members represented the School through presenting their own research and teaching ideas, attending informative panels, and serving as moderators and discussants at research sessions.

Yung Soo Kim and Deborah Chung won a top-three paper award for the Visual Communication Division for their research paper “Picturing Yet Another War: A Comparison between Images of War from the Russia-Ukraine War and the Gulf Wars.” Kim also served as a discussant for research papers on photojournalists and social media in the Visual Communication Division.

Carey Higgins-Dobney presented her research paper, “Make Slot Not Art: Creativity, Alienation and Burnout in U.S. Local Television Newsrooms,” at a Broadcast and Mobile Journalism Division panel on TV journalism.

David Stephenson presented his teaching idea for Picture Kentucky, an annual immersive photojournalism workshop for students, at the Innovations in Teaching Competition session, a selective panel on innovative and creative teaching tips for visual communication courses.

Kathryn Montalbano served as moderator for the top research papers session of the Religion and Media Interest Group, of which she serves as head in 2022-2023.
