For current hours of operation, please click here and review the Open hours section.

Who Can Use CI Equipment Checkout

CI Equipment Checkout has a variety of media and audio equipment that can be checked out by CI students and instructors in associated classes.  Eligibility will be based on class enrollment.  Students must first log in to the Connect2 online resource booking system and have their eligibility verified before they will be permitted to check out equipment.

Students can only check out equipment their instructor has identified as being necessary for their class(es).

Checking Out Equipment

Please watch the video below for instructions on booking equipment and spaces.  The Connect2 online resource booking system is available here.  Please note bookings must be made in advance and cannot be made at CI Equipment Checkout.

CI Equipment Checkout Agreement

Below is the user agreement you must consent to before creating a booking. When creating your booking, please read the agreement IN FULL to understand your obligations.

  • If you lose equipment that has been checked out to you, you may be financially liable for up to $500. (This is the replacement cost for the recorders and the insurance deductible for the cameras.) We strongly encourage personal property insurance, but it is not required.
  • If equipment is stolen from you, you are required to give us a copy of the police report regarding the theft. If you do not have insurance to cover the loss, you may be financially liable for up to $500. (Note that the university offers insurance to students that would cover this $500 fee. For more information visit https://wildcatliving.uky.edu/personal-property-insurance.)
  • If you break any equipment through negligence, you may be charged for repairs or replacement.
  • You are solely responsible for pick-up, shooting and/or recording with and returning equipment.
  • Students who, because of carelessness or negligence, have damaged, lost or had stolen equipment may be notified and billed by the CI Business Center. The students held responsible may be asked, before the end of the semester, to report back to the CI Business Center a plan for repayment/replacement. If payment is not made by the end of the semester, the student may not be able to enroll in courses in the school for the following semester (and may be dropped from any courses they have enrolled in) or, if it is the student’s final semester, they may not be certified for graduation until payment is made.
  • You must provide a working phone number and an email address from an active account. Disconnected phones and/or faulty email addresses will result in loss of checkout privileges.
  • Equipment must be returned prior to the end of each semester. Failure to return equipment may result in the student’s account being locked and no grades released for that semester.

Picking Up Equipment

Please note the following:

  • Students and instructors may not pick up equipment before the start of their booking window.
  • Students and instructors have one hour after their scheduled booking time to pick up equipment.  After one hour, the booking is automatically canceled.
  • Please present your UK Wildcard ID at the time of pick up.
  • You may also be asked to provide your UK email address for verification purposes.
  • CI Equipment Checkout staff will go over the equipment with you to verify that all items are included and to make sure it is not damaged and in good working order.

Returning Equipment

Please note the following:

  • All equipment must be returned within the time frame specified when making the booking (typically three days).
  • If you need to extend a booking, please see the next section - Extended Bookings and Late Equipment.
  • Upon return, CI Equipment Checkout staff will check the equipment with you to verify that all items are included and to make sure it is not damaged and in good working order.
  • Any damages or lost equipment may be your responsibility to repair/replace.
  • To allow time for CI Equipment Checkout staff to process returned equipment, a 30-minute buffer has been added to the end of each booking window.

Extended Bookings and Late Equipment

If you need to extend a booking, you must contact CI Equipment Checkout and receive approval prior to the booking's end date. Please see the For More Information section below for contact details.

If you are late returning equipment, your instructor may be contacted, which may result in loss of points in your class, loss of booking privileges for the semester, or other penalties as set forth by your instructor.
