Faculty Raise JAM School Profile at BEA

JAM faculty made numerous appearances as panelists and participants at the 2025 annual meeting of the Broadcast Education Association in Las Vegas.
Professor Carey Higgins-Dobney organized and moderated the panel “From Student to Teacher: Making the Transition with a Bachelor’s Degre,” at which JAM alum David Ashley served as a panelist. Higgins-Dobney also made a panel presentations for “We’ll Do It Live (Streaming) on Social Media and Website” and “Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: The Art of Leading Student-Led Media Projects.”
She also won first place in the open paper competition for the News Division, with her paper “Revisiting News Work in 2024: Technology Use by Corporate Owners and Its Impact on Local Television Newsroom Labor.”
Professor David Stephenson served as a panelist at the session “Check Out Time: Current Best Practices in Student Equipment.” Stephenson also made a panel presentation at the session “What's the Story? Teaching Students to Find Good Story Ideas and Develop Them,” which was organized and moderated by Professor Jen Smith.
Smith also served on the panels “What I Wish I Knew Before Entering the Business,” and “Those Who Can't...Teach and Other Lies Contributing to Your Imposter Syndrome.”
Professor Kyra Hunting served as a panelist for the session “Redefining Broadcasting: Histories of Network Television in the Digital Age.”
Certificates were presented for work done by UK students, for which the awards were announced earlier this year.
