Open educational resources (OER) are free and open access alternatives to commercial textbooks. In this presentation, Stephen Krueger, Affordable Course Content Librarian, will cover the background of textbook costs in the US; what OER are and how they work; and how to find, adopt, and create OER. We will also discuss what OER work for librarians typically looks like.

The School of Information Science and the School of Journalism and Media are hosting Josh Shepperd (assistant professor of media studies at the University of Colorado Boulder) to deliver "New Deal Media Activism: The Framework for US Media Theory," which will focus on concepts from his new book.
Shepperd will also discuss his collaborations with the Library of Congress, which have involved developing radio preservation programs and helping to build a scholarly community around these audio collections.
The talk will take place at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28 in 331 Gatton Student Center.

We will have drop in hours available for students to meet with CI alum, Marie Emedi. This is an opportunity for you to ask for guidance and tips on your career search and path.
Marie is a New York Based publicist. She works at Edelman & Associates as a Senior Account Executive on the Multicultural Brand Team and Earned Media Team where she supports several lifestyle accounts. Over the years she has worked with ASICS, Samsung Mobile, Capital One, and BMW to help advance their brand messaging and lifestyle coverage as well as the Health team, supporting Johnson & Johnson Janssen in an FDA Approval for their first ever lung cancer drug. Her past work has included media relations and business development work with ROC Nation as well as being actively and consistently engaged in education advocacy and community building with premiere advocacy agencies in her hometown of Lexington, Kentucky. Outside of her corporate job, Marie writes and publishes work centered on her own personal experiences and how they relate to current social issues and is actively engaged in the New York City fine arts scene where she offers communications consulting to art institutions.
