Master's in Library Science Scholarships
This scholarship honors Mildred Semmons, the first director of Library Science at the University of Kentucky. This scholarship fund was established through a bequest from her estate in 1969. Miss Semmons came to UK in 1930 to teach courses in library science that had been taught by Margaret I. King. These courses were offered in the Department of English. She was named head of a new library science unit in 1935 and remained in that position until 1944, when she retired. Mrs. Semmons died in 1965 at the age of 76.
This fund provides one or more scholarships to graduate students who are enrolled in the School and show a need for financial assistance.
This fund was established in 1999 with gifts from many SLIS graduates and then matched by the Commonwealth’s Research Challenge Trust Fund. The recipient(s) are selected by a scholarship committee and must be pursuing a master's or doctorate level degree in the program, possess outstanding academic credentials and exhibit potential for professional success.
This endowment was established in 1994 as an award for graduate students in the School of Library and Information Science. The recipients should be pursuing a Master of Science in Library Science.
